We went to Virginia for two weeks. Apparently the temperatures while we were gone broke a few records. Along with a lack of rain, our garden took a huge hit this year. We have lived here for 35 years and have had gardens for probably thirty of those years. We have never, ever had to water our plants (except when we plant them), other than the ones that are in baskets or pots. So, it never occurred to me to have someone water them while we were gone... big mistake. Almost every outside plant in our flower gardens is dead and the ones that aren't dead are stunted and/or not blooming. My friends... my gardens are so sad.
Black Eyed Susans, planted in memory of my mom, bloomed, but the flowers are smaller than normal and they are not lasting as long. These usually bloom all during July, August and September. I doubt I will have any flowers left after the next week or two.
This is my Asiatic Lily. It usually stand about 12-18 inches high and has the most gorgeous red blooms. This one started to bloom but dried up as you can see.
This is one of the pots that sit on the canopied deck. The Dusty Miller and the geranium will make it I think, but the impatiens did not make it. They love the shade and there wasn't much of that...
This is one of three hanging pots... dead... nothing survived in any of them. The three hanging pots had beautiful wave petunias and impatiens. All gone.
The lavender plant smells lovely, but it is very small and there are no flowers...
One of our many hostas. These suckers are virtually indestructible. Our kids have mowed them down, week whacked them, run over them with the tractor.... they always bounce back. I'm hoping that the rain predicted for next week with bring these back.
The little herb garden... yeah, it's a goner.
We stuff growing in the bird feeder! I don't think that's normal....
The lupin looks like it is making its way back... yay!
I did find some lilies and Black Eyed Susans to cut for a vase...
But this is the prettiest thing in the garden right now...
And we have four or five baby birds one of the birdhouses. I tried to get a photo but they are too little to see, but trust me, they are in there! I'll check again next week and see if they are big enough to take a better photo... I hope your garden is doing better than mine!
Thanks for dropping by....
